. . . as the 'Youth' go third

The recent bad weather threatened to disrupt yet another league game, but a small rest bite in the rain and the lack of use of the pitch recently, allowed the game to go ahead.

No rain forecast and the pitch marked out the boys arrived in plenty of time and went through their normal pre-match ritual's!

We got the boys nicely warmed up and returned to the dressing rooms for their instructions - win today and you'll put some distance between yourselves and the teams below you, loose and the opposition will leap frog you and drag you into the middle of the table.

We set ourselves up to be more disciplined then last week, imposed the 3 second rule and talked about cues and triggers across the pitch and when to press and how to avoid the individual battles.

Patchway are a strong side and came to the 'Grove' with an excellent record, having completed the double in this division 2 seasons ago and we have no doubt they will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.

The game started at quite a pace, but the 'Youth' again showed their intention early on, as the game went on the boys thought that they would rue the couple of early missed chances, but as the crowd on the side lines grew so did the boys confidence.

Wing play was going to be the key to unlock Patchway and thats exactly where the first goal came from, only for the cross to be headed into the opposite corner from the keeper with some style.

The second and third goals followed quite quickly and each one finished with the same finesse as the first securing one of our forwards their hat-trick.

Half time came and we took the boys inside for a quick chat, a quick change to the forward line and a different set of instructions to counter-act what we believed Patchway would do.

Patchway started the second half well and we knew the next goal would either kill the game off or allow the opposition back into the game.

2 years ago we played Patchway in a quarter-final GFA country cup game, found ourselves 2 goals up but we were naive and allowed the game to run away from us, this time we showed a better maturity and quickly found the time and space to finish superbly the fourth goal of the game.

Patchway continued to press and never gave up and earned their goal from some sloppy defending by ourselves which we will work on in training.

An excellent performance by the boys which has moved us back upto third and in touching distance of the top two again.

We travel the short distance to Mangotsfield next week, weather permitting for another tough fixture against the Hawks but we'll enjoy the moment for now.

Well done boys.
