Hengrove Athletic are pleased to announce the arrival of midfielder Josh Smith at the club.

Clearly Josh has got talent, his stats show that. I can give him the opportunity to step up to the higher level.
- John Durbin (manager)

Josh, 19, comes to Norton Lane having played in the Bristol Suburban League with Bedminster Cricketers this season. A prolific scorer with more than twenty goals already this season, Josh will strengthen the central midfield department of the Grove as well as bringing good technical skills and some youthful energy.

At Bristol City for seven years until he was fourteen, Josh left Ashton Gate to pursue an alternative path in cricket but is now returning to football to give it another shot, a move that really suits Hengrove manager John Durbin down to the ground.

John said “Clearly Josh has got talent, his stats show that albeit in a lower league. I can give him an opportunity to step up to the higher level and where better than at Hengrove, where the club has a proven record of bringing through young players.”

“Given I don’t have the finances here, I have to bring in players from the lower leagues and turn them into Western League footballers. Josh has got that chance now and I’m very pleased that he has signed for us.”

Welcome aboard, Josh, we hope you have a long and successful career with the green-and-whites.
