On Saturday, Hengrove Athleic were one of four Western League teams to make it through to the Second Round of the Vase, and boy did we leave it late.

The Grove beat Wessex League side Alton FC 4-2 after extra time; the home side grabbing a sensational 90+2 minute equaliser from Joe Brimble to take the tie into an extra thirty minutes. Luke Crewe had given his side the lead and after Alton scored twice, further goals from Craig Parsons and Jack Fillingham saw the Grove through in wet and windy conditions.

Elsewhere, Hengrove will be joined in the Second Round draw this afternoon by Bridgwater Town, Willand Rovers and Wellington who all won with varying degrees of ease on Saturday. Willand beat fellow promotion chasing Premier side Street 7-1 at home with six of the goals coming in the second half while both Bridgwater Town and Wellington (like Hengrove) needed extra time to squeeze past stubborn opposition.

Bridgwater travelled to Bashley and won 3-2, new signing Harry Horton scoring the winner while Wellington won 4-3 against Downton, having drawn 2-2 in 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, Odd Down lost 2-1 at home to Tavistock despite Asa White's late penalty and two spot kicks from Sacha Tong wasn't enough for Cadbury Heath who lost 4-3 at home to Wantage Town. Radstock Town lost 1-0 to Baffins Milton Rovers as well meaning that the number of Toolstation Western League sides left halved from eight to four.
