SEAGULLS ON CLOUD NINE AFTER BIG CUP WIN
Hengrove Athletic were knocked out of the Somerset Premier Cup by Weston-super-Mare last night, the National League South side winning by nine goals to nil.
The Seagulls took an early lead when academy product Oscar Collins converted a cross on five minutes. It was 2-0 on the quarter hour mark when James Morton cut the ball back for Marlon Jackson to slot home from twelve yards. It took nearly twenty minutes more before the hosts made it three from the penalty spot after a foul, Marlon Jackson scoring despite Grove keeper Ben Britton pushing it on to the post. On 37 minutes, it was four when Rex Mannings scored his first of the night and that's how it stayed until half time.
Chances came and went for the Seagulls but on 55 minutes, it was 5-0, again through Rex Mannings, set up by skipper Luke Humphries. A second penalty for Weston was awarded on 68 minutes for another foul and with Jackson having just been subbed off, it was Rex Mannings who completed his treble with the spot kick. Number seven arrived on 74 minutes when Jason Pope set up Oscar Collins for his second.
There was still time for Rex Mannings to grab his fourth goal of the night and the resounding victory was wrapped up when Mannings turned provider for Jason Pope on 83 minutes.
