Hengrove Athletic recorded their second victory of pre-season when they took on Hellenic Premier side Lydney Town at Paprika Park and won 4-2.

The early exchanges were pretty even with Carl Bush saving well for Hengrove with his legs though the visiting Town keeper had less to do with just routine stops. As it seemed half time would come scoreless, Hengrove took the lead when Simon Knight finished from close range after a long clearance from Bush.

And it was that man Knight again three minutes after the break who made it 2-0, this time snaffling up a chance that came after Gary Shorney's free kick wasn't cleared. On 56 minutes, Jamie Hillman's men went three up when Jamie Godfrey unselfishly squared for a trialist to tap in from six yards.

Lydney came back into the game with goals on 59 and 78 minutes, setting up an interesting finale but Grove wrapped it up with four minutes to go with the goal of the game, Jamie Godfrey smashing home a drive across the keeper and into the far corner.

All in all, a great workout for the hosts in their penultimate pre-season match as the countdown to the start of the season ticks on to ten days now. Everyone at Hengrove would like to thank Lydney for making the trip across in midweek and wish them all the best in heir Hellenic Premier League season.
