Hengrove Athletic exited the FA Cup at the Extra Preliminary Round stage after losing by three goals to nil to Western League newcomers Tavistock Town.

Two goals from striker Liam Prynn in addition to a Jack Crago penalty ensured The Lambs set up a Preliminary Round tie with Frome Town. To add to the Grove's ignominy, substitute Jackson Brown was rather harshly sent off for a handball four minutes after coming on with the score at just 1-0.

Manager Jamie Hillman made four changes to the starting lineup that had been well beaten at home to Bishop's Lydeard last Saturday. Jamie Godfrey's injury and Lewis Cook's unavailability meant there were debuts for new signings Kieron Ireland and Minas Constantinou. Teenagers Jackson Brown and Jack Jones took places on the bench with the midfield experience of Craig White and Giorgio Mancini preferred.

Hengrove started the brighter and had the better of the early exchanges but gradually Tavistock came back into the game. The first half finished goalless with the hosts coming closest with a Crago effort that struck the crossbar. Last season's South West Peninsula League champions didn't have to wait too long after the break as Liam Prynn gave them the lead on the fifty minute mark.

The Lambs though had to wait until fifteen minutes from the end though to increase their lead. Sub Jackson Brown was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball on the line, a decision that led to a straight red card for the youngster and the penalty was duly converted by Crago to make it 2-0.

Late on, Prynn scored his second and Tavistock's third as they wrapped the game up to progress into the next round. For Hengrove, it was a far better performance than last week against a side that will be a threat to many teams in this season's Western League Premier Division.
