Hengrove Athletic picked up their first point of the campaign with a hard fought goalless draw at Almondsbury this afternoon.

In a game of relatively few clear cut chances, both sides had to settle for the point in baking hot conditions at the Field.

Although he was missing three first team players through injury, manager Jamie Hillman had a fifteen man squad to select from after Monday night's defeat at Calne Town. There was a welcome return after four games out for Jamie Godfrey and Gary Shorney came into the defence in place of Rob Mallett with a defensive reshuffle taking place. Regan Burton came into midfield with Giorgio Mancini dropping to the bench.

Both sides had chances to score throughout the match with the changes at the back bearing fruit for a visiting Grove side that had shipped nineteen goals in their previous four games. Josh Scully-Rogers overhead effort was cleared off the line by a superb defensive clearance that belied the new look back four, and in the end, the visitors were well worth a valuable point that lifts them two places off the bottom of the table.

It was the first clean sheet for Hengrove since their 5-0 win over Shepton Mallet back on May 2nd 2018, 47 games ago and gives the club a boost ahead of next week's tough looking FA Vase tie with Radstock Town.
